A large portion of the general population suffer from reduced quality of life due to oral and facial pain, usually generated from poor oral health care. The oral and facial pain is caused mostly by infections of the gum and support the teeth and gums that are infected.
Recent reports indicate that certain oral infections can have significant ill-affect of other major organs in the body. An example is bacterial endocarditis, a condition in which the lining of the heart and heart valves become inflamed.
In addition, poor oral health affects the digestive process, such problems can lead to intestinal failure, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other problems.
